Title: GeoPlan/ FDOT Sea Level Scenario Sketch Planning Tool and FGDL Preview
Date: Wed, Jun 17, 2015 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM EDT
Many Florida transportation facilities are low-lying and vulnerable to flooding, storm surge, and inundation from sea level rise (SLR). Because Florida’s economy is dependent on the transportation system’s ability to move people and freight, considering the effects of SLR will be important to protecting the State’s infrastructure investments and economic stability. While effects could be decades away, the time is now for developing adequate data and tools to inform the planning process.
This presentation will detail the methods and data used to create the FDOT Sea Level Scenario (SLS) Sketch Planning Tool and feature a demonstration of the Tool components. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center, with funding from the Florida Department of Transportation, developed the SLS Sketch Planning Tool to assist in the identification of transportation infrastructure potentially vulnerable to inundation from SLR.
This presentation will also feature a brief preview of the new website and map viewer in development for the Florida Geographic Data Library (FGDL).
This webinar will be presented by Crystal Goodison, Project Manager at the University of Florida GeoPlan Center, a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) research center affiliated with the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. The GeoPlan Center works with state, federal, and other agencies to provide mapping data, analyses, and expertise to address environmental, urban planning, and transportation issues. Crystal has worked with the Center for over 15 years, specializing in (GIS), database administration, data management, and the creation of decision support tools for planning.
